Thomas Yukai Yuri (Tommy)

Thomas Yukai Yuri is a boy who spends most of his life on the island of Kuro Bara. Along with his best friend, Lily Toomasu, he is experimented on by the Doctor. When he is first introduced, he is a year older than Lily, making him seven years old. He suffers from cyclothymia-class bipolar disorder, which is intensified by the experiments and medicines that the Doctor forces on him. His manic episodes-- periods of high energy and happiness-- are often longer than his depressive episodes-- periods of low energy and sadness-- prompting Lily to call him "Yukai", meaning "Happy", which he joyfully accepts as his middle name.
While Lily escapes the island and grows up in society, Tommy is left behind. He matures under the Doctor's supervision, still having many experiments performed on him daily. His mental health declines rapidly without Lily, the depressive episodes of his disorder evolving to consume him most of the time.
Tommy holds the Doctor as he dies, and buries him solemnly on Kuro Bara. He is offered by the Doctor's ex-wife, Mara, to come to St. Croix with her, but he declines, saying he's happier here. With no one left to take care of him, however, his health begins to fail, despite Schrödinger's nigh-constant attention.
When Lily returns to the island, Tommy is happy to see her, even though he is dying, and not even trying to deny it. He takes one last adventure with Lily, and kisses her passionately for six hours straight before collapsing to the ground in her arms, gone forever. He is buried by Lily with the Doctor's most unique botanical marvel: a rose that is pure black in color, and one that will never die.
